The annual youth event part of Tigray Festival North America was colorfully celebrated on Friday, August 5, 2016 inside the Ethiopian Embassy.
The event covered diverse programs. At the center of all was a display and celebration of rich Tigrian/Ethiopian culture.
Musical dance and cultural customs that represent different parts of Tigray were shown. A friendly competition was also held to crown Miss Tigray North America of 2016. A contestant representing the Kunama culture was awarded the Miss Tigray North America of 2016 title.
Dr Addisalem Balema representing the high level delegation from Tigray expressed his pleasure at the work of the youth in organizing such event with the aim to celebrate their heritage and stay connected with their native country of Ethiopia. Dr Addisalem congratulated the youth organizers for the accomplishment so far and encouraged them to continue building on what has been started.
Organizers also awarded several individuals who inspired the youth in various ways.
A special tribute was paid to Danny Hagos, who passed away earlier this year, for his active participation during past festivals and his generous humanitarian contributions.
The event was accompanied by live band of talented singers and musicians and event attendants enjoyed dancing till closing.
Tigray Festival 2016 continues today with public meeting involving the delegation from the Tigray regional Gov’t, followed by the festival main party tonight.
There will be a picnic and sports activities on Sunday August 7th, which will be followed by festival closing party organized by the Tigray women association of Washington DC.
