World Future Council awards international prize for best policies to combat desertification

Ordos (China), 12th September 2017 – Yesterday, the Future Policy Award (FPA) ceremony was held at the thirteenth session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNCCD in Ordos, Inner Mongolia (China). The international “Oscar for best policies” honours laws and practices that successfully combat desertification and land degradation. The FPA is awarded by the World Future Council (WFC) in cooperation with the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). GRAND RENAISSANCE DAM (GERD) IS A BRIDGE TO THE FUTURE

Our Grand Renaissance Dam (GERD) was launched in 2011 and when finished, it will be the largest hydro-electric power plant in Africa and the 8th largest in the world by the capacity of its reservoir and will create the 2nd largest reservoir on the Nile. The GERD is our largest nation building project that will generate energy, provide water for irrigation and control flooding. It is currently 70% complete and expected to start operation in 2017.
